Day of Thanks!

This, here, today, Thanksgiving, is my favorite holiday. I absolutely love the sentiment of this day. And yes….good food is great and family is nice, but that’s not what it’s about to me.

One of the best and most memorable Thanksgivings I actually spent alone and fasted all day.

Another memorable Thanksgiving was dishing up food for seniors. Everyone was so lovely and in such a festive mood, and the seniors seemed so happy to have us there. Even the coordinators and fellow volunteers were very sweet and we all had heartfelt reasons to be there. That was a really great day.

Since going gluten and dairy free holidays aren’t really about the food anymore anyways. Mainly because it’s hard to replicate traditional childhood recipes and inevitably some dishes don’t quite hit the mark. Like I’ve never been able to make really great mashed potatoes without real butter. They just aren’t quite the same.

But I am not worrying about that this year. I am veto’ing my normal diet today with the idea that I’m going to start a veggie and fruit flush next week anyway. This is of course is just my justification. Let’s see if I actually do it. Lol

It’s been a weird and crazy year, right? But I am feeling no less grateful than any other year and like always, happy to be alive, happy to be here, hopeful to see what future Thanksgivings bring. Granted, it’s just another day but I do love holidays and especially the feeling of being truly grateful.

Happy Thanksgiving ❣️

I have always enjoyed reading and writing. Maybe because I have always been on the quiet and reclusive side; which most people may not guess at first glance or if seeing me in a social setting, especially around people I am comfortable with but it’s also not something I have an issue with. I need solitude to recharge. Writing gives me the peace and time to renew that is offered to you for your enjoyment and pleasure as well. I hope. Lol

  1. Glad you had a good day.. Hope you wake up refreshed. i liked reading about serving seniors. We did that a couple of times as a family but my wife wasn’t really into and therefore, the children want to do that anymore.. We have so many people in convalescent Homes that either have no family or the families did little to support them during the Holidays. Bravo to you for doing so. Giving self and time is always a good gift.

    1. It’s sometime always enjoyed. If anything good came out of my Catholic school years it was my enjoyment of volunteering. We always went to senior centers and I was very fond of it.

Hope you had a pleasant day.

  2. Hpapy Thanksgiving, PG. I am vegetarian (snack on some naughty fish once in a while, tho) and enjoyed such a dieted meal for the holiday today. Veggie stuffing, potatoes, cransauce (homemade), asparagus. It’s really quite wonderful.

I do miss chicken sometimes though…

    1. Yum!!

I have been a vegetarian on and off in my life. The only thing I ever miss is sushi and steak. I don’t care for chicken even when I’m being an omnivore and I hate turkey.

We had ham, homemade scalloped potatoes, candied yams, roasted brussel sprouts, bread and appetizers earlier. Now we’re getting ready for dessert. Pecan pie and chocolate lava cake.

      I’m tired. …….think I’ll go to sleep early. πŸ’‹
