Amazon has some pretty good algorithms. But this is twice I’ve seen it purposefully distort them so that I can’t find an item that I know it has, that is cheaper than the items their search “naturally” gives me. Even when I’m inputting the precise name of the product. It still gives me a ton of other similar products, not of that brand name that are higher priced.
The first time it happened I was pissed. I was looking for a Panda onesie for the tot. She wanted to wear it for sleep but also as a Halloween outfit. I looked and looked but she didn’t want the ones with red cross eyes, they looked morbid to her and I agreed.
I went page after page suggesting the few within my budget that looked cozy and cute. She says to me “no, I saw a better one”. I ask her where and she says Amazon, on her own search on her own laptop. Which isn’t connected to an Amazon account. Honestly, I didn’t believe it.
But then I saw it. Sure enough, on the very first page, exactly what she wanted and in my price range. So I used the brand and key words to try to find it on my own account. It was a failure. Try as I might, no matter how many pages I searched that same item could not be located. I had to write in the exact very long title word for word to finally get it to come up and even then the only reason I got the same price was by using a coupon.
The exact same product was available cheaper to her without a coupon.
It made zero sense to me and made me so angry. But I blew it off. Who knows? Maybe that’s how they bait new “victims”, I mean customers🙄.
But then I needed a new faucet and wanted one similar in finish to what I had but not paying local prices. I went on Amazon and eBay and did an extensive hours long search and finally found one I felt reasonably priced on eBay.
But when I received it, it came directly from Amazon. Sure enough I punched in the exact long title and it came up, but if I put in the brand and keywords it would not pull up at all. Yet it was $20 cheaper than anything I had found on my original research and in my trying to find it organically on Amazon.
Complete failure. It’s like the product doesn’t exist unless you know all of the title and exactly what you are looking for. The price point was never available. Because as listed it was very inexpensive. So how did the eBay seller find it? Why won’t it pull up in an organic search? Even the sorting option from least expensive up doesn’t work correctly on Amazon. And what I thought was merely a bad glitch on their part I now think is completely purposeful.
I believe they purposefully hide cheaper items. I believe their algorithm is set up that way. And I firmly believe Scrooge Mc’Bezos knows all about it.
He feels zero responsibility for the people on who’s back he built his empire. He has zero gratitude for the consumers and employees that made him who he is. He seems to believe all his wealth happened in a vacuum to which he owes no one anything: no transparency, no accountability, no giving back in any way to the population he so easily robs.
Nope, not his problem or concern. I so hate Amazon. But I am complicit. I buy their products. I watch their streaming. When this pandemic is over I will source my goods elsewhere and cancel my business with them entirely. That man doesn’t deserve one penny more of my money. God knows he has more than enough anyway.
No business or corporation should ever be so large, have so much power and command so much of the commercial sector. It’s a monopoly that they purposefully distort and abuse. And yet, we are so afraid of socialism in this country that we bend to the will of giant corporations without any issue at all. This isn’t capitalism, it’s corporatism. Plain and simple.
With companies like Monsanto/Bayer, Pfizer, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, Koch Brothers and so many more leading the way….all the way down the gutter.
Because let’s be clear, they give no fucks about anyone but the owners, execs and shareholders. And the government does nothing but slap some fines around now and then and call it a day. Who profits? Who gets justice? Who benefits?
The answer is not you, not me, not the average citizen.
Ever talked to people that work for Amazon? I’ve had the pleasure more than a few times in all sectors, from management down and they all have horrible things to say about the company. I hope it burns and crashes and Bezos ends up penniless. Too bad we don’t take people to the guillotine anymore. Some truly, truly deserve it.
But that’s not my call or judgement to make, now is it? I’ll put my money where my mouth is soon enough. It will smart, because again they seem to have an ever growing monopoly, but so be it. Gotta live your truth.
