Look. I absolutely get that we are in a pandemic.
If we have bars and restaurants and non-essential businesses open, public spaces, travel, etc. available then why not schools?
if people are willing to send their kids to school, let the kids go to school?
If some students can’t attend because they live with someone or are themselves compromised, then allow them to stay home and learn remotely.
If teachers don’t want to go back to school, let them stay home too. There are millions of people unemployed right now, I’m sure they can be replaced by people that are willing to work. Or have the ones that need to stay home teach remotely.
But I want my kids in school.
I’d rather have them in school then go out to eat. I’d rather have them in school then go on vacation. I’d rather have them in school than go to the casino. I’d rather have them in school than go to the mall.
Those are all things I can very easily do right now and yet my kids can’t go to school.
Either shut everything non-essential down or open it up. Pick a lane!!
Because this makes no fucking sense to me at all.
Most people that get COVID-19 are not symptomatic and go on to have no issues. Some get sick of course. Some die. I get that. I’m not advocating for everyone to have to go to school.
And yes I get that everyone attending school will be exposed.
That isn’t true at restaurants, bars, casinos, airports, presidential rally’s, malls, etc.
If our hospitals are not being overwhelmed with cases then can we please open the fucking schools up?
I never saw myself being an advocate for the fairly mediocre education that is k-12* (not talking collegiate level). But that mediocre education is better than home schooling, at least for 2 out of 3 of my kids it absolutely is. And I want them back in school.
Anyone? Knock-knock. Anyone listening?
*Not insulting educators, but compared to other nations of our “caliber” our k-12 is subpar. I know that from first had experience. We don’t learn the metric system. We don’t learn basic life skills. We are behind in what other first world countries teach and that’s backed up by statistics, not just my own personal experience.
**And all these stats they are giving for how many kids test positive. Or 900 people quarantined because they were exposed at school, etc. stories. I don’t want to know the positive test results. I want to know how many people/kids consequently got hospitalized. How many of them, if any, died? Those are the numbers that interest me. Those are the numbers that truly count.
If we are trying to go for herd immunity, then we will need the majority of people to be exposed. If we aren’t doing that then I’m not sure what it is we are doing, honestly. The only one factor I see unanimous adhered to from China to Milan is “keep the hospitals from being overloaded”. I see little ryhme or reason to much else with each state and so many different entities within each state doing whatever they want to in the US.
It’s such a shit show. SMH😒😒😒
