Well. There’s online dating. There’s Skype for relationships. So why not have online best friends? Seems a natural progression in our more alienated and technology driven environment. So why not? We all need support in life. We all need connection. We all need to need and be needed. It’s part of our make up as human beings. Social connections can be very grounding, uplifting, fulfilling and meaningful.

My friend radar has been shut down completely for years, since before even dealing with this whole trauma and divorce issue. So we’re talking over 4 years now of shutting people out. It’s not fair to me and it’s not fair to the sweet souls that have reached out to me for friendship. I think it’s time I opened up more. I don’t think I was really ready before and truthfully maybe I’m still not. I’m working on so much personal growth and stability right now. But another beauty to a virtual friendship is that anywhere you are in the world you can maintain that bond, since it’s all online anyway.

Maybe because I have always been on the quiet and reclusive side; which most people may not guess at first glance or if seeing me in a social setting, especially around people I am comfortable with but it’s also not something I have an issue with.
